Scrofiano
Scrofiano is a characteristic medieval village, whose first documented news dates back to the 12th century, in relation to the presence of the Cacciaconti family, the nobles who owned all the castles in the area.
Its name derives from the Latin „sacrum fanum” or „sacred temple”, a title of which the village is still worthy considering the numerous churches and chapels present within the walls and in the surrounding countryside, such as the Church of the Madonna del Soccorso, located on the route of the Via Lauretana .
At a glance you can see the pyramidal shape of the village, at the top of which we recognize two towers: the crenellated one of the Palazzo Pretorio and the bell tower of the Collegiata di San Biagio.
Although few testimonies of the walls remain, incorporated by the houses, the internal alleys decorated with terracotta arches give the town a labyrinthine aspect in which it is pleasant to immerse yourself while discovering clues of the medieval and contemporary history of this sanctuary of authentic Tuscany.
